INTERVIEWS WITH DEVIANT ART PHOTO ARTIST III

Preserve these Feelings by Slairea

.You Can't Catch Me. by Slairea

Unconditional Love by Slairea Forever by Slairea You're not alone by Slairea

Planning the Future by Slairea

ENGLISH

The Italian artist, currently based in Hampshire, England since few months ago, Veronica Strambini is one of the most amazing visual artists I've ever met. I had the opportunity to monitor her progress as a photographer, since she began with photos, could say, "funny", but always, always very expressive, until today when her pictures are real thorough, thoughtful and touching beauty pieces.

Preserve these Feelings by Slairea

Although currently photography is the highest passion of Veronica, psychologist by profession, poetry and music lover, she never imagined it would come to this point when in 2009 -1 September, date she remember with nostalgia-a dear friend required her as model:

"She didn't tell me "today we are going to have a photo shoot!" or something like that... While we were studying she took a break and said "don't move!"... She came back with her camera in her hand and started to shoot. I was very embarrassed, but suddenly I caught the magic, the happiness in her eyes, something I've never felt before and I was fascinating by  her joyfulness, by her strong passion... This made me want to discover the great word of photography and learn everything about it!

Veronica, however, not dares to self defined "professional photographer" because "photography is not my job, unfortunately..."

Love.Photography. by Slairea

What happened after that first successful approach to photography? When did Veronica decided to set to work to be much more than a model?

"At the beginning my teacher has been a great Italian photographer, Mr Christian Melfa :icongrooveinjector: He took me by the hand into this awesome world teaching me everything he knew. Then Internet and browsing different galleries have become my daily school!

It means that Veronica has studied and experimented on her own, that even without formal studies of visual art, she has been able to identify her interests related artists that generously passed their passion and techniques with her. Nevertheless, just four years after her first steps as a photographer, Veronica has won a very personal style, evolving with each new art work. Always more creative, exploring new possibilities of lighting and retouching, and contrasting tones looking increasingly bold in her aesthetic aesthetic search is, as she lets us see, is also a personal search.

"Coincidence?  I don't really know... when I'm in front of one of my photos, editing it, I never follow precise steps... I just let the photo speak to myself, to my inner side, and my hand does what it conveys to me... all depends on my states of mind, I guess..

Although Veronica has become a versatile photographer, making portraits of people, landscapes, treasures, and food, began with herself, which some people might consider an act of vanity. But Veronica not only self portrayed, but the story that is going on at the time. Her self-portraits are narrative, exposed, as she said, a state of mind. Sometimes experimenting with bolder than Cyndi Sherman suggest, in other lets flow an overwhelming passion and other tenderly envelops us with a burning heart. As a psychologist that she is, not be surprising that photography was also a kind of therapy:

.You Can't Catch Me. by Slairea

"Yeah, that's true... Photography is a sort of theraphy for me... most of the time I use it to exorcise the "evil within"...  so I try to communicate my soul, my true soul. Feelings, states of mind... all that I'm not able to say in words because photography says it better... to me it's like another language.

'Selfmade' by Slairea

With her passionate about humanity, is not surprising that most of her work focuses on people. And Veronica, born to be in front and behind the lens, has the wonderful fortune of having a big and very photogenic family:

"Weeeeell... I've got a big, big family, 3 brothers, 2 sisters –and her beautiful eyes light up just mentioning- I could experiment some skills on them... I have the fortune to have Sara, one of my sisters, who is a professional model... in fact it was so easy to work with her... not so easy was to work with my teenager brother Terence! He is a really terrible model at the beginning... but I'm not blaming him! the profession of model is really hard.. and you need experience to improve yourself... he's getting better though :)... and my beloved nieces and nephews... kids are always beautiful subjects.

Unconditional Love by Slairea Forever by Slairea You're not alone by Slairea

Asked Veronica if you follow a conscious process to achieve those so captivating photographs:

"I've not a real process... As I said before, everything happens as a consequence of what is my state of mind in that moment...To captivate me? It must have a beautiful  composition... and I can't even describe what's a beautiful composition, it's so difficult... but it's when all the elements are in the perfect position and can create a perfect armony in the frame... it's like a melody: you can have it only if every single note is in the perfect place.. if not, the result is just a terrible noise.
Veronica has also dabbled in conceptual photography and make a great work that starts from the mind of the artist:

"Well....it's a little bit weird... I mean sometimes it's enough that I look myself into a mirror few minutes to understand my possible "concept project", 'cause I get in touch with my soul, and i pull out the predominant feeling at that moment .I rarely sit at a table and think "ok...today i HAVE to do a concept photography... so well...what can i convey this time?" No, this doesn't work to me. Everything happens really naturally.

Planning the Future by Slairea

"I had to think about a conceptual photo once though –she continues- it was for an Italian competition, that's why it was hard...because I HAD to think about it... and the execution wasn't that simple. The photo is "life charging", the competition was called "Rosso Avis" (Red Avis). Avis is an italian association made up of volunteers who donate their blood regularly, for free and anonymously and the goal was to represent the activity of this association. It was very hard to think about an original idea, it was hard to get the composition I liked, It was hard to find a chair like in my thoughts, the teeny tiny plant, the location and so on... It was a great challenge: it was the first conceptual photograph without me as the main subject. I love it.

Life Charging by Slairea

Veronica is recognized influenced by artists like Julie De Waroquie :iconjulie-de-waroquier: Cetrobo :iconcetrobo: Daria Zaytseva :icondaria-zaytseva: Jaime Ibarra :iconjaimeibarra: Calvin Hollywood :iconcalvinhollywood: Sanya Khomenko, Lina Tesch :iconlinadomina: Zhuravleva Anka, Mecuro B Cotto :iconmecurobcotto: entre muchos otros.

Spontaneous as she is, Veronica has no idea how long she will live in England, does not rule out that it is something definitive because, in her own words, "I'm building my future right now."
